Plastic surgery is more popular than ever these days and one of the most often requested surgeries involves rhinoplasty. To the layman this would be your typical garden variety nose reshaping. Reshaping the nose requires one of two techniques to be used with the possibility of revision surgery occurring afterward if the initial results are not what the patient desires. Normally this is at the expense of the patient, but in the case of gross incompetence the doctor may either be forced to pay the patient via a lawsuit so that they can get their nose fixed elsewhere. This is all excluding the possibility that a black market surgeon was used as they are notoriously difficult to serve a summons to once they move to a new location and change their name.
The procedures used for nose reshaping include the open and closed methods. In the closed method all work is done within the nose and none of the external skin is cut. This is generally performed during small adjustments or less drastic reshaping of the nose. The open procedure requires the surgeon to cut the columnella, the small piece of skin between the nostrils. This small incision is followed by the surgeon gently lifting the skin of the nose so that they can work. Augmentation, and repair to a deviant septum require this type of surgery, for instance.
It takes roughly two weeks to a month to fully heal from this type of plastic surgery. This excludes any serious complications such a bad infection and the necessity of revision surgeries. Nose reshaping is as much an art as it is a science and the smart cosmetic surgery inclined individual will seek a surgeon with at least five years of medical practice and two years of solid cosmetic surgery work.
